This secret, four-year-old corrections policy came to light last week only because one of the two pedophiles in B.C. currently on the program is suing to ease his restrictions.

The Abbotsford Tory said regardless of the outcome of the Federal Court case it is only a question of time before the offender gives his $20-an-hour guard the slip and destroys some other family.

This pedophile is being watched under a supervisory order, not probation or parole, but a separate judicial instrument put on the books, ironically, as a result of White's own lobbying efforts.

As he says, however, Parliament never expected the courts to use the supervisory orders as an excuse not to incarcerate an established menace to society.

Corrections officials say they've been forced to adopt these measures because Crown lawyers are reluctant to seek dangerous-offender status, given the Supreme Court of Canada's ruling that indefinite sentences should be a last resort.

If it's true -- and I'm not sure it is -- someone should wander down to the prosecutors' office and tell them to do their job -- in my opinion this is exactly the kind of case they should be bringing to court.

This deviant -- 40-year-old Shaun Joshua Deacon -- and another man are alone among 17 federally convicted sex offenders in B.C. who have 24/7 supervision because no one can turn their backs on them. What's wrong with this picture?

He was sentenced to seven years imprisonment in the 1980s for assaulting in Kelowna a five-year-old girl and three boys aged 6, 8 and 13. Awaiting sentencing, the creep abducted one of his victims and assaulted the child again.

Released in the mid-1990s, Deacon was caught assaulting an eight-year-old boy. On parole for that offence, he was caught with a 10-year-old boy in his halfway-house room.

After his release last November, Deacon tried to dump his escort and launched a court battle over the restrictions imposed on him because they violate his Rights and Freedoms.
